"Parthenope was a siren in Greek mythology. According to classical myth, according to Hesiod, she was the daughter of Phorcys, a primordial deity. Parthenope and her two sisters originally lived in ancient Hipponion (present day Vibo Valentia, Italy). Legend has it that a lifeless Parthenope arrived where Castel Dell'Ovo now stands and founded Naples. Even today, Neapolitans are called Partenopei; it seems she is responsible for the lasciviousness that is said to characterize Neapolitans."
