"The legend of the Capitoline Geese dates back to around 390 BC. During the siege of Rome by Brennus’ Gauls, the geese, sacred to the goddess Juno, began to quack loudly, waking the consul Marcus Manlius. Thanks to their warning, he managed to repel the enemy who were attempting to capture the Capitoline fortress at night, thus saving Rome."
