"The first medieval artistic representations of the unicorn are found in the 12th-century Rochester Bestiary. With a few rare exceptions, in fact, until the 12th century, unicorns depicted on capitals, frescoes, stained glass windows, and sacred furnishings all corresponded to Christological allegories. In my painting, I wanted to represent the religious-mythological version of the Unicorn, which represents Christ alongside the Virgin Mary."
