Idunn is the one of the lesser known, but most important goddesses of the Norse pantheon. She is the guardian of the apples of immortality. Without these apples, the gods grow old and die. I chose her to be painted with a deer because like Idunn the deer is gentle, and yet it has sustained many cultures through out human history.
