"The vampire is a common European legend (mostly with roots in Eastern Europe) of an undead being who drinks human blood to live beyond the grave. These stories are often a result of fear ... originating from a fear of death and disease ... and later changing into warnings or fear-mongering to demonise the threat of "others" (such as foreigners, people with different morals or outsider ideas that don't fit society norms), often portraying social, religious or sexual deviance. In my painting, I wanted to look at the human side of the vampire and their curse ... loss, loneliness, sadness, loss of life and the lifetime of darkness."
