“Like many young people of my generation, I grew up watching Disney films, those stories where love heals everything, the prince appears on a white horse, and a kiss solves all problems.
We grew up with the idea that one day someone would save us, that love is pure, beautiful, and full of light. But then we truly grow up. And we realize that the long-awaited kiss is rarely romantic, it’s rushed, clumsy, even grotesque.
The dream ends the moment the “true love’s kiss” turns into a dull, sloppy make-out.
This painting speaks about that violent interruption between fantasy and reality, that moment when the pink world of princesses collapses and gives way to the modern dating world of likes, matches, and fleeting affections that evaporate in seconds.
The idealized image of love becomes an uncomfortable reflection of society: everything is instant, everything is consumption, even romance.
In Some Day My Prince Will Cum, the irony lies in the very title: the fairytale love is replaced by raw, affectionless desire.
The work is a blend of sarcasm and disillusionment, a parody of lost innocence.
It’s about the collapse of the romantic dream, but also about laughing at it, because maybe that’s the only way to bear it."
