"Since much of my work is rooted in folklore and mythology, the theme of "AfterLife" immediately made me think of the underworld and its spirits - particularly the psychopomps who guide the spirits of the departed across the river. Chief among these, at least in my personal pantheon, is Hecate. Often represented as a triple Goddess, images of her facing three directions can be found across the centuries, symbolising her role as guardian of directions, and torchbearer at the crossroads between realms of light and shadow.
Hecate Triformis usually has three dog heads or three horse heads, but for me the inclusion of a human face means the viewer can connect with her more easily.
She is wreathed in black velvet and veiling to mourn the dead, but also a plethora of jewels to signify her status as Queen of the Underworld."
