"One of my fondest childhood memories was of the time I spent reading fantasy books. I was obsessed with fantastical worlds and imaginary creatures, and one of my favorite stories was "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen. I was very attracted to how tragic and mysterious this story was, full of darkness - even as a child, these kinds of scary characteristics attracted me. My favorite part has always been the one where the Mermaid goes to the witch's lair to ask for her help. I've imagined this scene thousands of times in different ways, and I wanted to create for this exhibition one of the many versions that have lived in my head for so many years.
That tale is so present in my own life story that it became a beloved memory to me and made me pursue a career in arts. "
