Belle the cat is inspired by the Fable ‘Belling the Cat’. Hence she is covered in the mice that are daring to ‘Bell the Cat’. She’s a kind soul though, so those mice need not worry!
She is made from fabric that has been buried in the forest under a magical oak tree. This gives the fabric a soft feel and imbues magic into the character, I love how the earth paints the fabric, mother natures watercolours. (The fabric is gently washed before stitching). And then hand painted and embroidered.
