Title: Gatito de los Muertos
Medium: Watercolour
Size: 5" x 7" (8" x 10" framed)
A wee black kitten with traditional sugar skull paint. Inspired by Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican festivities honouring the dead. Ofrendas, or altars, are decorated with photographs, calaveras (skulls & skeleton sculptures), marigold flowers, poems, and sweets to create a welcoming place for spirits to visit. Deceased pets hold a special place of remembrance as well, and this little kitten symbolises an ofrenda celebrating feline familiars both present & past.
