Artist Interview: Olivier Castillon
Tells us about yourself and what you do
I’m a self-taught artist living in Antibes (France). I have always been irresistibly attracted to everything relating to travel and dream.
I also have a crazy addiction in The USA landscapes since a really young age. The main thing I remember from when I was very young is this incredible desire to visit the United States. This is why today I travel all around the USA as soon as I have the opportunity.
Traveling, dreaming, creating... this is so much the same think for me. the same goal. it's like expressing yourself in the same way. I love to create colorful strange and popsurreal characters, it is my life and I would not change it for anything in this world .
This is my universe.
Why art?
Ever since I was very young I have always loved creating in different ways, photography, music, drawing, painting... I can’t explain it. It is a part of my life.
Why art ? Because it is important to explain yourself by a way. Painting and drawing is a way I found to share my universe... I can’t live without creating.
Which medium would you love to try but haven't yet?
Maybe pastels...
I think I tried a lot of medium but I always come back to acrylics.
What are you trying to communicate with your art?
Usually my artwork represents fragile and ephemeral creatures, but I am not necessarily trying to communicate a special message.
An artwork can be just an inspiration of a moment in my life.
I like the idea that someone can appreciate one of my paintings... no matter what message or meaning it conveys.
How is your personality reflected in your work?
My whole life is a magical universe full of strange and wonderful creatures! My artworks totally reflect my life and my personality...
How has your artwork change over time?
This is really a difficult question andI don’t think I’m the best person to answer it... I think my latest artworks have more detail, maybe more pop surreal. This is the way I want to follow.
What memorable reaction have you had to your work?
Definitely when someone tell me they love my work...
What is your dream project?
I would love to be able to keep drawing all my life.
I do not have incredible dreams. Just being happy and free. Art is a good way to feel happy and free.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
To love, to live, to be happy ... It's the secret of everything. including in art.
If you love to do something like drawing, keep going. You are on the good way by doing what you love.
Professionally, what’s your goal?
My only goal is to progress more and more. I want to give all the love I can with my artworks and meet people.
Thank you so much Olivier!
